19 of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his maiden title for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a difficult period, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in especial - led to him dropping out of the top ten and eventually separating with long-time mentor his previous coach.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily advanced in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought competitive victory over challenger Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden title since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court from March of 2023.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has won 21 victories at 21 distinct events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters together, so to win a title is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, including in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had prompted commentators to doubt if his skill to perform at the top level was finished.

Yet the player has made changes in the past month, attempting to approach the net and compete positively, supported by an improved serving game.

Medvedev came back from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, taking four of the last five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his maiden ATP Tour title, gained dominance to force a decider.

He defended 4 early-game opportunities in a tight final set before the Russian broke to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the win with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
